Jesco Industries Inc. (originally James Welding) was started by my grandfather, Herbert James Sr., in Detroit, Michigan at the corner of 14th and Ash. (By Tiger Stadium for those die hard Detroit Tiger fans.) The business continued on with the second generation, my father, Herbert James Jr. Dad and his brothers continued in the company with daily operations when Grandfather James was unable to. The brothers worked in many areas of the company; sales, manufacturing and administration/operations. Eventually, two of the brothers pursued other career opportunities. I, Bonny DesJardin, am the granddaughter of the original owner, the third generation to take the reins of our family owned company.
The first and strangest memory of our impending relocation came when returning from a weekend church retreat to find a realtors sign on our front lawn. Shocked was a gross understatement but not unlike a lot of families of the 70ís when the parents (Dad, in this case) made the decision, you did it. I also remember Mother was not thrilled with the idea but we moved the company (and family) lock, stock and barrel to our present location in Hillsdale County, Michigan in 1973. The company has expanded many times over the years and currently has 90,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space.
In November 2005, we went from small business to a woman owned-small business with the third generation. In March 2015, Jesco became certified as a Woman Owned Business (WBE) and currently employs over 46 skilled workers to meet the needs of our customers.
Jesco Industries manufactures over 50 different sizes of self dumping hoppers in a variety of capacities. Since the beginning, specialties have always been a strong part of our company. Our customers appreciate the quality of products we produce. A few years back, we developed a new line of dumpers called JESCOHydratilt and offer them in five different sizes operating off the hydraulic system of a forklift. We also expanded our specialty lines to include Side Pivot Hopper, Filer Press Hoppers, Low Profile Portable Hoppers and Rotator Boxes. We accept the challenges involved in a uniquely designed unit and look forward to our next design challenge.
The woven wire mesh partitions became part of our business in 1985. We acquired a company with a long history in the construction market, whose owners wanted to retire, and we wanted to grow. A perfect match for us and has been going strong ever since. In the mid 90ís we purchased another wire company who produced woven wire mesh in a rectangular pattern. This allowed us to introduce another product line of Tenant Storage Lockers / Condo Lockers (TSL), PalletGard wire backs, machine guarding and wire mesh enclosures.
We will continue to look for a perfect opportunity to expand and strengthen our product lines, to give our customers exceptional products along with the best customer support available.
